Exploitable results – Characterisation report for 3D printed peristaltic pumps

Result description

A report evaluating the preformance of 3D printed peristaltic pumps developed by the University of Wollongong. The consistancy of volume of fluid delivered, flow rates, suction height and head of a newly designed linear peristaltic pump were evaluated.

Exploitable results – Analysis of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) implementation process and development of marine monitoring programmes

Result description

Review and analysis of the progress achieved concerning Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) implementation in relation to eutrophication, marine litter, contaminates and underwater noise. This report consists of two main parts. In the first part, results of the European Union technical assessment concerning the Common Sense descriptors are summarised. In the second part, detailed information is provided on the implementation progress in three case studies, i.e., Ireland, Poland and Spain. Specifically, the review (1) describes and evaluates MSFD implementation process; (2) analyses Member States Initial Assessments; (3) describes and evaluates marine monitoring standards and programmes that were set up to meet MSFD requirements; (4) identifies non-adequate monitoring efforts, existing monitoring gaps and emerging monitoring needs, and (5) identifies barriers to efficient implementation of MSFD and MSFD-related monitoring programmes.

Exploitable results – Procedures of sensors deployment methodology

Result description

The report defines specific platform characteristics and identifies deployment difficulties in order to determine the adequacy of sensors within specific platforms. In order to obtain the necessary information, two online questionnaires were realised. One questionnaire was created for sensor developers and one for those partners of the COMMON SENSE who will test the sensors at sea, over the course of the project.

Exploitable results – Characteristics and availability of innovative marine sensors and oceanographic platforms, initial planning of testing activities

Result description

The report was developed by the COMMON SENSE project as it was preparing the protocols for field testing that began in August 2015. Two tables were sent to partners responsible for sensor development and testing activities, with all necessary requested information to be filled-in in order to start planning further activities and verify possible constraints. The result of this work is included in the report as well as details of new potential sites which are currently under evaluation to be used for testing and potential stakeholders who are available for this kind of activity.

Exploitable results – Best practices and tools for delivering integrated sensor data using Sensor Web Enablement (SWE) technologies

Result description

The COMMON SENSE project is developing a software platform that will integrate and deliver sensor data to the Web, in standard formats and through standard interfaces. It is designed based on Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standards and best practices, more specifically OGC’s Sensor Web Enablement (SWE) standards. This report provides an overview of SWE standards and best practices. It also reviews existing free- and open-source sensor web implementations.
