Operation of technology demonstrator of hybrid power plant of MGT and SOFCD4.5 “Well tested technology demonstrator of hybrid power plant of MGT and SOFC” will be influenced by the delay of D4.2 and D4.3 as well because the data/characteristics from the separate test rigs is necessary to verify the concept of the technology demonstrator 12/19 Linked to task T4.4 Succesfully tested technoloy demonstrator of the biogas-fired hybrid power plant. Reason for update: D4.5: From our experience on the test rigs we do expect the commissioning for the real coupling also to be time-consuming. Instead of focussing on the detailed characterization (which implies long idle time to heat up the system) we prefer to demonstrate the operation in general. Furthermore, an additional T4.4.05 (“Conceptual design of real coupled hybrid power plant based on insights gained from the test rig characterizations.”) has been found necessary to do before setting up the real coupled system, which requires additional ressources that will be missing at the experimental state at the end.

Optimised Electrical driveLinked to task T2.2 A new concept of highly-efficient low-cost electrical drive for this MGT will be developed, which is directly coupled to the MGT. This involves designing the electrical power components – high-speed generator and high-frequency converter – for an optimal, highly-efficient CHP system in which the turbine, generator and converter operate close to their optimal working conditions.

Trading the infrastructurial and project ressources against the scientific output, the priority is set to show the demonstration of the hybrid power plant and therefore the continuous operation is reduced to 100 hours.
