BUSINESS CONCEPT: IMS Health estimates that about 8% of total healthcare expenditure or about 500bn USD per year globally, can be avoided with optimized use of medicines. Our business model is a secure system for prescription, delivery and use of medication targeting 1) polypharmacy (use of many medicines), 2) overuse of antibiotics and injections, 3) failure to prescribe in accordance with clinical guidelines and 4) inappropriate self-medication.
SOLUTION: eMediCare connects the person taking the medication directly to the distributor and prescriber (GP), these disrupt the current suboptimal medication delivery from nurses or pharmacies and replace this with a secure and monitored logistics chain from pill producer to the end user.
The online medication dispenser offers control of what, if and how medications are taken with a feedback loop measuring the effect of medication. The feedback loop alarms the doctor who can adjust the level of medication if out of threshold. It contains the following unique features:
1. The delivery of medication is performed in a closed loop that avoid over user, under use or misuse of medication.
2. eMediCare offers flexibility of dosages, in contrast to multidose packages, it is possible to deliver a optimized medication for patients using a combination of many drugs (polypharmacy).
3. eMediCare targets to raise the current level from 50% adherence to above 80%.
4. eMediCare eliminates the caretakers or nurses responsibilities -, and avoids their unnecessary time consumption related to the medication logistics and use. It will optimise the value chain, and target a vast cost reduction.
USERS: eMediCare is intended for home care use and build a new strong link, but also disrupt the current interplay between the health-care provider, the patient and the pharma companies producing and distributing the medication.
THE MARKET; was in 2014 estimated to be $1 trillion spent on medicines of all types globally. eMediCare targets the pharmacy automation systems market, that is expected to grow from 4.7 billion USD in 2011 to 7.8 billion USD by 2018.
EU DIMENTION: The success of this project supports the Digital Agenda Action 75: set to give Europeans secure online access to their medical health data and achieve widespread telemedicine deployment.
