The work done under this PoC has confirmed the properties of the BLOBREC test as a gene expression test for breast cancer using peripheral blood. The original set of 50 genes remain valid. Additional analyses showed no inferences with stress before the second look, hormone use or tobacco smoking. Improvement in blood sampling and logistics improved the specificity. The use of pooled samples or a standard further improved the test properties.
We propose further investigations on:
A. The independence of the BLOBREC test in relation to mammogram
B. The use of BLOBREC in the primary screening or at follow-up or second look at the breast cancer screening program.
C. A more suitable, cheap and fast technology for the commercialization of the test
