Critical PQ phenomena and sources of PQ disturbances in PE rich power systems

The document will provide a summary of: - a critical assessment of PQ issues in transmission power networks considering real-world issues as well as studies published by research laboratories; - Categorizing the PQ disturbance causes, types (such as harmonics, frequency variations, voltage-level violations), and reported impacts while considering the temporal variation of the level of disturbances due to renewable generation and load; - Evaluating the influence of harmonics on PMU accuracy (in particular, if the PMUs are installed close to sources of harmonics and inter-harmonics, e.g., generation buses with PE-connected generation)

Final project conference proceedings to disclose the consortium conclusions and recommendations

The Report will describe the minutes of meeting of the final conference in Brussels and delivers the final recommendations of the project as well.

Mitigation of power-quality disturbances and provision of differentiated PQ

The Report will propose mitigation Solutions with regard to harmonics in grids with very high share of PE. frequency variation in grids with very high share of PE. voltage variations in grids with very high share of PE. disturbances that may be observed at a very high share of PE in electric grids.

Propagation of PQ disturbances through the power networks

The Report will deliver: - a set of numerical simulation tools for harmonic power-flow studies on a selected set of appropriate grid architectures performed in WP1; - Numerical studies of the propagation of harmonics considering temporal and spatial variation in harmonic injections in line with the scenarios of WP1 - Numerical Studies of the propagation of active and reactive power variations for the scenarios studied in WP1 and the resulting frequency and voltage violations for different levels of penetration of PE devices; - a validation of the use of PMUs and other WAMS to assist in the mapping of PQ issues, with an implement real-time data retrieval; - an appropriate prototype tool for the graphical representation of disturbance propagation using “harmonics impedance maps” and “heat maps” - an extension of the visualization tool to a prototype online tool enabling TSOs to have clear picture ofthe state of PQ in the network

Recommendations for connection code implementation

This document will provide recommendations for the network connection code implementation (on the basis of the three most impacted European connection codes). It indicates a methodology to assess the conditions under which higher levels of PE penetration can be implemented without harming the system operational security.

Description of system needs and test cases

The Report describes a setting of coherent and complete framework to support the approach of 100% converter-based devices connected.

Requirement guidelines for generating units that enable to operate a grid without synchronous machines

The document will provide Guidelines for generating Units operating in a grid without synchronise machines

Influence of PQ disturbances on operation of PE rich power networks

The Report will describe the impacts of harmonics in grids with very high share of PE. of frequency variation in grids with very high share of PE. of voltage variations in grids with very high share of PE. of disturbances that may be observed at a very high share of PE in electric grids.

Recommendations for the future evolution of the synchronized measurement technology and deployment in Europe

The Report describes: - if the Solutions developed in Tasks 2.2-2.7 are robust and applicable to all European interconnections with minimal tuning. - the interoperability of the solutions with any upstream source of synchronized measurements, including those currently deployed at ENTSO-e members.

Report on systemic issues

The report will describe the challenges with an increasing share of PE devices in the grid regading systemic issues

Communication master plan

Dissemination strategy: objectives and targets; Dissemination activities and channels; Project results promotion: tools; Dissemination KPIs to measure dissemination effectiveness and efficiency; Management of the dissemination activities: o packaging knowledge for an effective take up of the results, o reaching selected early adopters amongst other TSOs and electricity aggregators, o preparing the effective exploitation of the project results. Dissemination administration (approval, reporting, deliverables).

New options for existing system services and needs for new system services

The document will describe new ancillary services which may be needed in Systems with 100% PE, whereas existing ancillary services as provided today may also have to be implemented differently.

Recommendations for a deployment roadmap of grid connection rules and novel power system control laws

This Report will describe the synergies between Exploitation and Dissemination activities and involved the ACER statements in order to implement a deployment Roadmap for a new or adapted Connection rules and System control laws

Proceedings of workshops with stakeholders

The reports will summarize the Minutes of Meetings with the stakeholders (Reference Group, ENSTO-E, EDSO....) The Report will be updated in months 26 and 38.

Requirements for monitoring and forecasting PE-based KPIs

The Report will describe based on the Output of WP 1 the requirements for forecasting and Monitoring PE-based KPIs.

Lessons learned from the pilot testing of monitoring and forecasting KPIs enabling TSOs to assess the impact of PE-penetration

The document proposed methodologies to be applied with the existing infrastructure among the project partners. If the results are not fully positive, a solution will be proposed (whether based on pseudo-measurements or simulations) to enable the further deployment.

Project web site

A website will be developed in the project as one of the main interfaces towards the stakeholders who are interested in the work and achievements of the project. Moreover, the project website: - will act as a communication and dissemination channel for the project’s results and for involving and enlarging the stakeholders’ community; - will work as a share-point for the consortium, containing all institutional information, including working documents and deliverables, with a private area dedicated only to the consortium. The website will be continuously updated in contents and structure throughout the project duration.
