The Proof of Concept (PoC) project named Copper Catalysis Applications (CatalApp) was devoted to study the feasibility of bringing the copper-catalysed C-C and C-heteroatom cross coupling technology, initially developed in the SUSCATCu3 project (ERC-2011-StG-277801), into a pre-commercial stage. The projects has focused into two key aspects: on one hand, the scale-up of the catalysis up to the kilogram scale, thus validating their technological applicability; on the other hand, economical and legal aspects necessary to accomplish in the commercialization stage have been studied, including a market study to identify specific potential uses of these new synthetic tools, and also a review of potential commercialisation partners to enable exploitation of the new methodologies into the market.
This PoC project allowed to set the commercial availability of a portfolio of methodologies based on copper catalysis, designed for specific applications. These newly developed methodologies are expected to raise a broad interest within industries involved in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals and organic polymers, whose syntheses involve the formation of C-C or C-heteroatom bonds.
With the conclusions obtained from this PoC project, the expertise on the Cu-based technologies developed will be exploited into the market in the form of consultancy.
