We will have access to colloids with both directed and isotropic interactions Coulomb interactions will be utilized to allow for long range interactions and colloidal stability of hard soft and hard spherelike particles Supramolecular binding motifs will be used for specific and directed interactions amongst the colloidal entities to allow construction of more defined structures strands clusters etc which can be considered colloidal molecules

Extension of the DDM technique for optically turbid samples and rheology (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

We will report on the development of differential dynamic microscopy DMM for the measurement of very dense colloidal suspensions and DMM under flow conditions and in combination with microrheology

A functional Mod3DDDLS setup for polarized and depolarized dynamic light scattering experiments with transparent and turbid samples will be implemented at ULUND and test measurements on model systems will have been successfully performed

This report will describe the data format to be applied to all data acquired under EUSMI with the aim to be used in the EUSMI data repository and to develop a gerenal standard for data storage in soft matter science

While static SANS measurements aim at the steady state of a rheology experiment real time SANS with insitu rheology will resolve the different states that occur for instance with oscillatory shear This will be achieved by employing conventional stroboscopic SANS as well as by attempting to take into account neutron flight times for faster oscillations TISANE At this point real time SANS combined with insitu rheology will be in place

Set of optimized protocols for the synthesis of ultrasmall plasmonic particles with a variety of shapes (cube, rod, plate), sizes (5 - 20 nm) and surface chemistry (prepolymers) (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

We will have developed a set of protocols for the synthesis of metal nanoparticles which support surface plasmons these are mainly gold and silver nanoparticles We will have access to a variety of shapes such as cubes rods and platelets with variable dimensions to enable tuning of the plasmon resonance absorption bands Furthermore the particles can be functionalized with molecules to enhance their compatibility with the prepolymer building blocks or to engage in their supramolecular binding events

Microgels with charged moieties will have been prepared Different crosslink densities and uniform sizes are accessible through synthetic adjustments different charge densities will allow for tunable swelling and colloidal stability These polyelectrolyte microgels exhibit distinct responses to pH and salinity and can be used in conjunction with supramolecular motifs for enhanced and directed interactions

This deliverable will consist of a report where the performance of the counterroating rheometer is evaluted both in terms of the rheological measurements as well as the possibilities for high speed imaging model colloidal suspensions will be used to evaluate the performance of both the optics and the mechanics

We will have developed preparative protocols where composite hydrogels are prepared from water soluble prepolymers with metal nanoparticles These biocompatible hydrogels are based on supramolecular crosslinks which can be switched via external stimuli For example the photothermal effect of plasmonic nanoparticles can be used to heat composite microgels from within This leads to compression of the gel or breakage of the supramolecular binding events Other external triggers such as pH and salinity will have been fully characterized
