Controller technology future advancement & exploitation plan (si apre in una nuova finestra)

This reports pertains to the future advancement and exploitation of the controller-nodes as a separate product. Controller-nodes developed within VISORSURF can find other, additional applications within the general field of nanonetworks, and can thus be handled as a separate, promising off-shoot. This report will include a plan related to the sustainability of VISORSURFS’s controller-nodes, after the finalisation of the project.

Updated Scientific Report on the theoretical capabilities of ideal HSF (si apre in una nuova finestra)

This deliverable will advance D5.1 (which focused on a single node pair) and proceed to model and evaluate via computer simulations of a complete controller node network for an HSF. High number of network nodes and substantially computational capabilities per node will be considered.

Report on the comparison between ideal HSFs and the manufactured prototypes (si apre in una nuova finestra)

This deliverable will consolidate the outcomes of D5.1 and D5.2 to provide realistic simulations of ideal HSFs, stemming from the use of the THz band and extremely dense networks of nano-sized controllers. Subsequently, it will provide a scientific report on the theoretical HSF capabilities and will be compared to the status of the manufactured prototypes. This comparison will serve as an indicator of the future development margin of HSFs.

Definition, analysis and simulation of the absorber demo pilot of HSF (si apre in una nuova finestra)

This deliverable concludes WP1 producing all the specifications, designs and simulation results pertaining to the electromagnetic behaviour aspects of the HSF demo pilot.

Initial Scientific Report on the theoretical capabilities of ideal HSF (si apre in una nuova finestra)

This deliverable will model and evaluate via computer simulations the communication structure of a HSF and its performance, assuming a single communicating node pair and focusing on the realistic modelling of node hardware (based on NoC capabilities), the communication channel at THz adapted for the HSF case, the modulation and encoding schemes.

Controller networking communication mechanism design and evaluation (si apre in una nuova finestra)

This deliverable details the communication protocol among the controller nodes. It will resolve issues of medium access control, routing, and packet format definition. Indicative metrics of performance are: i) the achieved coverage (i.e. the percentage of successfully informed/inspected control nodes per packet of directives), ii) the HSF programming/monitoring speed (i.e. the time required to achieve this coverage), iii) the rate of packet collisions (tantamount to the energy-efficiency of the networking scheme), iv) the robustness against noise and interference, and v) minimal computational resources (yielding lower fabrication cost per control node and simpler hardware in WP3).

Final report on the potential of HSF in achievable electromagnetic properties and functionalities (si apre in una nuova finestra)

This deliverable will report the finally foreseen capabilities of the HSF concept from the electromagnetic point of view, consolidating the experience gained during the duration of the project.

Report on undertaken communications activities (si apre in una nuova finestra)

This deliverable will report the undertaken actions for the communication and dissemination of the project’s outcomes. These include: • Dissemination of results via publications in high impact journals and participation to international workshops/conferences. • Dissemination of VISORSURF results with companies/SMEs. • Participation to any clustering activities related with the VISORSURF’s subject, such as activities within the FETOPEN program (e.g. the annual FETOPEN conference) and activities of the Metamorphose Virtual Institute of Metamaterials • Appearing in digital & public media, such as YouTube, the press & newsletters. • The publication of a book on HSF foundations, design methods and best manufacturing practices. • Organizing summer schools and special sessions at venues on HSF and related subjects. • Invite experts from the consulting committee and beyond to participate to project meetings.

Measurements-based HSF monitoring system design (si apre in una nuova finestra)

This deliverable will seek network measurement-based ways to monitor the state of the controller network in real-time and “debug” a HSF program. Both microscopic (direct query to specific nodes) and macroscopic (aggregate metrics) methodologies will be considered, studying their potential trade-offs.

Analysis and simulation of the expected EM behaviour of HSFs (si apre in una nuova finestra)

This deliverable will report the research outcome pertaining to the meta-surface aspect functionality of the HSF. The report will clarify the optimal electromagnetic properties (and their range) that should be made tunable and programmable via the HSF approach. While the positioning, dimensions and operating spectrum of the nano-networks is respected, simulations included in this report will not study the controller networking aspects (e.g., protocols, packet formats etc.).

The deliverable will be a live document, which will be annually updated to report on the assessment of the activities related to dissemination, communication and exploitation. This report details the attained capabilities (and potential issues) pertaining to the networking protocol handling the communication among the HSF control nodes. The deliverable will use the same performance metrics defined in the corresponding theoretical design phase at D2.5.

HSF technology future advancement, exploitation and standardization plan (si apre in una nuova finestra)

This is the third and final WP6 report documenting the final activities related to dissemination, communication, exploitation and standardization (as a follow-up to previous reports). This report will include a clear plan related to the sustainability of the VISORSURFS’s main outcome, the HyperSurFace (HSF), after the finalisation of the project.

The HSF software (middleware & compiler software) may require revisions during the iterations between HSF design and prototyping. This deliverable will report the revisions performed on the HSF software, from its initial version (M24, D.2.5) until the end of the project, in order to keep it on par with the final prototype.

This is the second report related to VISORSURF’s dissemination and exploitation activities.

Initial UML definition of the HSF programming interface and virtual functions (si apre in una nuova finestra)

This deliverable will provide the initial Unified Modelling Language description of the HSF programming interface. It will define the basic programming methods that the HSF should support, and link them at a high level to the intended virtual (metasurface) functionality that they should yield.

UML model of Compiler/Monitor middleware and HSF application programming interface (si apre in una nuova finestra)

This deliverable follows-up and concludes the initial designs made in D2.1 and D2.2, producing the middleware required for programming the HSF prototypes.

Initial UML definition of the Compiler middleware (si apre in una nuova finestra)

This deliverable compliments D2.1 and provides the initial Unified Modelling Language description of HSF Compiler that will translate programmatic commands (D2.1) to spatio-temporal actuation directives for the HSF controller network. Following an object-oriented approach, this deliverable will provide the diagram of classes, their member functions and intended functionality.

The website will be the main channel through which the general public will gain access to VISORSURF results, publications, news and software developed in the context of this project. This deliverable will be available at M2, and kept regularly updated throughout the project.
