Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East – Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - EMME-CARE (Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East – Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre)

Periodo di rendicontazione: 2017-09-01 al 2018-08-31

The Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East (EMME) has been identified as a climate change “hot spot”, and adverse impacts from extreme weather events, droughts and poor air quality are expected to exacerbate in the coming decades. EMME-CARE proposes a comprehensive and integrated program to address these challenges through a combination of research, innovation and education. EMME-CARE will make use of the strategic geographical location of Cyprus as a gateway between Europe and the Middle East and will focus on greenhouse gases, the water cycle, extreme weather, atmospheric dust and air pollution, and their impacts on health and several priority sectors of the Cyprus Smart Specialization Strategy.
The EMME-CARE (Phase 1) project aimed to build the different components of a Business Plan leading to the establishment of a new Centre of Excellence; upgrade of the Atmosphere & Climate Division of the Cyprus Institute. The processes that have been followed to develop the Business Plan and the detailed Work Plan required for its timely completion were performed 3 stages:
1. Research, Innovation and Education vision and strategy which have been reported in Deliverables D3.1 D3.2 D3.3 D3.4 D3.5 and D3.6 in close collaboration with the Advanced Teaming Partners,
2. Resources of CoE which have been reported in Deliverables D4.1 D4.2 D4.3 D4.4 in close collaboration with the Cyprus Institute, and
3. Review and finalisation of the Business Plan in Deliverables D1.3 (first draft) and D1.4 (final version) led by the Steering Committee.
The Research, Innovation and Education vision and strategy (Deliverables D3.1 D3.2 D3.3 D3.4 D3.5 and D3.6) the Resources of the Centre of Excellence (Deliverables D4.1 D4.2 D4.3 and D4.4) and the finalized Business Plan (Deliverable D1.3 for first draft and D1.4 for final version), constitute the main progress beyond the state of the art.
All these Deliverables have been submitted as CONFIDENTIAL, since they will be used in the preparation of the TEAMING phase 2 proposal, and should therefore not be disclosed for that purpose.
