World Manufacturing Forum 2018

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - WMF2018 (World Manufacturing Forum 2018)

The WMF2018 aimed at organizing a two-day event where international leaders highlighted the role of manufacturing through the year 2030, explored how digital transformation contributes to economic well-being and societal advancement and how the new industrial revolution will support sustainable development through education and technological changes. The goal of the event is to facilitate dialogue and activities towards a shared common vision to solve global manufacturing challenges through cooperation and collaboration while considering different perspectives of stakeholders from industry, academia, and government, with a worldwide vision.
The event was at its sixth edition.
The main objectives of the event have been:
- To be an opportunity where policy makers from central government (i.e. Minister, Vice-Minister or Director) and key role players of the industry (high level managers) from leading countries in Manufacturing (France, Germany, Italy, South Africa and USA) presented, shared and discussed their national agendas and key issues on the digitalization of manufacturing.
- To be a platform for the communication of the European Commission strategies and policies to a global audience.
- To be an ambitious event to present results of the European cooperative research, to support the Horizon2020 and to discuss about international cooperation in R&D.
- To present the permanent organization resulted after the previous editions with the goal of improving research, innovation and competitiveness of all countries in the field of Manufacturing and supporting to shape the regional and national industrial agenda.
The projects was performed by two committees:
• The program Committee: composed by 6 members who identified and implemented the program topics and speakers.
• The organization committee: composed by 9 members who helps the program committee with the program and the speakers contacts, and who managed the logistic activities for the event organization

The main activities performed during the event organization are:
• The development and definition of the themes and the program of the conference, which have captured the needs and interests of policy makers, industry, finance, academia, unions and society, as demonstrated by the membership organizations of the speakers.
• The organization of an international roadshow covering the following countries: France, Belgium, South Africa, South Korea, Colombia, Pakistan.
• International and institutional relations with industrial associations, government, companies and universities.
• The communication plan with website, newsletters and booklets kit.
• The organization of a two days event, attracting more around 850 participants and 3 side events the day before.
The final result of the project was the two day event held in Cernobbio, Villa Erba, with the participation of more than 40 speakers from 22 different countries, more than 850 participants from different sectors, industries,
academia, RTO and government, and from more than 48 countries.
During the event organization different association such as EFFRA, Confindustria Lombardia, Cecimo, IndustryAll, Regione Lombardia, Canada, World Economic Forum and many others have been involved.
In addition, selected press and journalists have been invited to help in the dissemination of the event as well as the results, generating around 130 pages of press review published in the Italian and international press.
During the organization of WMF2018 the permanent organization has been created with other international partners. The Foundation carried out as a result of the organization of the World Manufacturing Forum with the goal to be an open platform that aims at enhancing and spreading industrial culture worldwide, as a means to ensure economic equity and sustainable development.

an additional result carried out during the event is the pubblication of the WMF 2018 Report, distributed to more than 1000 people and digitally distributed. in the report the 10 key recommendiations have been developed:

• Promote Education and Skills Development for Societal Well-being
• Develop Effective Policies to Support Global Business Initiatives
• Strengthen and Expand Infrastructures to Enable Future-Oriented Manufacturing
• Encourage Eco-Systems for Manufacturing Innovation World-Wide
• Create Attractive Workplaces for All
• Design and Produce Socially-Oriented Products
• Assist SMEs with Digital Transformation
• Explore the Real Value of Data-Driven Cognitive Manufacturing
• Promote Resource Efficiency and Country Specific Environmental Policies
