Separation membranes for carbon dioxide removal from gas streams

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - MEMCARB (Separation membranes for carbon dioxide removal from gas streams)

Berichtszeitraum: 2018-05-01 bis 2019-10-31

The MEMCARB project has allowed us to scale up the synthesis of TAMOF-1, a CO2-selective metal-organic framework (MOF) to the multi-kilogram scale. With this starting materials, a composite plastic membrane was fabricated, combining the selectivity towards CO2 and the mechanical features of plastic materials. A module prototype was designed and built with this membrane, showing robust performance to separate CO2 from a gas mixture, with minimum pressure differences. The patented concept has been transferred to a spin-off company, Orchestra Scientific S. L. (www.orchestrasci.com) for exploitation in the field of biogas upgrade and/or natural gas sweetening. Second generation modules and pilot projects will be carried out during 2020, and the first units will be available to the market by 2021.
