Techno-economic analysis and the PASSION vision on future agile high-capacity optical metro networks

Techno-economic analysis and the PASSION vision on future agile high-capacity optical metro networks: this document will summarize the techno-economic studies and results performed in T2.4, considering the candidate technologies and architectures. Based on these analysis and taking into account the progress done in both WP3 and WP4, it should also propose network architecture refinements.

Process development and fab run of PI WDM SOAs

Epitaxially grown layer stacks will be designed for realization of arrays of polarization independent optical amplifiers on InP. Amplifier designs for high power handling will be inserted for fabrication.

Design of the programmable nodes and modular transceiver architectures

Design of the programmable nodes and modular transceiver architectures will detail different node and transceiver architectures defined in T2.3. An analysis of the best modularity choice for the proposed photonic technology solutions will be performed, identifying the programmable parameters of the system.

Definition of use cases and requirements for network, systems: includes the T2.1 work and is based on M2.1 inputs. D2.1 includes all the selected use cases to be taken as the project reference. The report will present a list of network and systems/sub-systems requirements.

Test results from the full Tx modules

The final results of the packaged Tx modules will be reported here. This will include also detailed analysis of the packaging results including the thermal performance of the fully packaged module and the signal integrity results .

Low power consumption and agile wavelength selecting switches

Tunable filters and selectivity will be demonstrated for flexible slicing the spectrum while use photonics circuit schemes which allow for low number of electrodes.

This deliverable will address and report the conducted experimental validation of the PASSION network prototype.

Test results from passive SiPh PICs integrated with VCSELs

The co-integrated SiPh with VCSEL light sources will be tested to insure adequate performance.

First testing of directly modulated VCSELs with selected drivers

Once a choice has been made for the supplier of VCSEL drivers, first compatibility tests will have to take place to ensure that VCSELs and drivers can co-operate to specifications.

SiPh circuitry for hybrid integrated low insertion loss MCS

Multicasting switches including spectrum slicing and space switching will be adopted for compact circuitry on SiPh to be combined to InP amplifiers.

Test results from the first transmitter submodule with directly modulated VCSELs

The initial integration results coming from the first prototype combining the VCSEL and drivers on a single submodule are to be reported here.
