SMART CITY NAVIGATION TOOL FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - EVA (SMART CITY NAVIGATION TOOL FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED)

Berichtszeitraum: 2017-09-01 bis 2017-12-31

There are an estimated 285 million people to be visually impaired worldwide, of which 39 million are blind and 246 million have low vision. For these people, navigating busy urban landscapes can be extremely challenging. Guide dogs can offer huge support, but with the cost of breeding, raising, and training the dog approaching €60,000, it is not an option available to most. We at Eva Vision Ltd. have developed a voice controlled eyewear based on Augmented Reality (AR) for visually impaired people that not only reads, recognizes objects and describes the world, but also enables them to travel independently to formerly unaccessible or new places. EVA is fitted with a navigation system connected through a smartphone app to provide safe and comfortable mobility and guidance information in indoor-outdoor public environments.
The Feasibility Study performed has focused on 3 main areas. From a technical point of view, we mapped out a strategy to define final specifications of the product, industrial design of EVA and pathway to market authorization. On the commercial side we performed an analysis of our target market, assessed potential partnerships to consolidate our marketing strategy and we conducted a Freedom to Operate Analysis to ensure there are not barriers for us to operate. Finally, on the economic side, we performed financial forecasts a 5 year´s scenario beyond the project.
Once in the market, EVA will be the most advanced and cheapest solution (€2,000) in the global blind assistive market that provides individuals with the specific help they need while navigating the city. EVA will confer greater autonomy for the visually impaired resulting in greater self-esteem, better security, having a positive impact on their quality of life.
