Attractive, Acceptable and Affordable deep Renovation by a consumers orientated and performance evidence based approach

Periodic Reporting for period 2 - TripleA-reno (Attractive, Acceptable and Affordable deep Renovation by a consumers orientated and performance evidence based approach)

Periodo di rendicontazione: 2019-11-01 al 2021-10-31

The vision of the TripleA-Reno EU H2020 project is to promote widespread energy renovation of existing European hosing stock and empower individuals and communities in favour of such developments. The ultimate goal of the project is to provide tools to simplify the renovation efforts for designers and practitioners, expedite the renovation process as a whole, and ensure high quality results for the end users. TripleA-reno project achieves this aim by developing an open end-user centred gamified platform that:
- fosters new consumer and end-user centred business models and decision support tools, using evidence-based performances that facilitate decision-making;
- improves performances of deep renovation by enhanced quality control, supported by targeted CPD and training;
- provides consumers and end-users of deep renovation projects with attractive, understandable and personalized information of realised real performance;
- demonstrate the benefits and evidence-based solutions in live demonstration cases;
- rolls out the results on a wider European scale by in Triple A-Reno involved European interest groups and umbrella associations.
In order to demonstrate the benefits of the TripleA-reno solutions, the project aims to provide case-specific recommendations in terms of affordability, acceptability and attractiveness by considering everyday lifestyles, motivations, and issues faced by actors involved in the renovation processes of 7 demonstration sites in Europe.
The TripleA-reno approach to make renovation more affordable and attractive is grounded on the engagement of (end)users through the three levels of gamification platform as:
• 1st level: Improving acceptance, usability and co-design of advanced construction solutions leveraging on applied anthropology, social psychology, behavioural research and financial modules to understand acceptance and cost-effectiveness of advanced retrofit products and processes
• 2nd level: Solving the fragmentation of the whole-building design among different life-cycle stages and across various disciples, by providing a fully-integrated BIM-based building optimization, simulation and visualization platform, that supports relevant stakeholders involved during the whole construction process, starting from the design to the end of life
• 3rd level: Providing environmental, energy, economic and social benefits during the operational phase through market-ready plug-and-play modular construction packages including smart building components, materials and technical systems (for deep renovation or new construction) and hardware and software user-centric ICT technologies
Five European associations are in charge of the exploitation and replication strategies to maximize the impact of projects results. TripleA-reno is a collaborative effort of 16 different European partners

The project starts with the development of two basis elements to support the targeted end-users:
- Providing consumers and end-users with attractive, understandable and personalized information of realised real performance. A certification of the achieved quality and performance by understandable labelling schemes, based on enhanced quality control, supported by targeted CPD and training, addressing the entire value chain in a cross-trade multidisciplinary approach.
This output is used as an input for the development of a number of end-users centred business models. This output will also support the use of both existing financial mechanisms, instruments and innovative business models to address market failures. The environment of these business models is the TripleA-reno open end-users centred gamified platform. Rational of this platform is that is supported by an attractive gamified environment where gamification is used to visualize the ‘real world’ (e.g. attractive 3D presentations of houses and buildings to be renovated, in combination with visualization of products, concepts, renovation kits), to facilitate attractive ways of rewarding and stimulation and community building for helping and experience sharing. Community building on regional/local scale will also be used to create local ‘ambassadors’, enhanced with web based gamification facilitating ‘human interaction’ to stimulate these communities towards renovations, energy efficient usage, etc. In addition to the developed tool, the platform will:
‐ Create the social network to support the ecosystem of stakeholders
‐ Create the game-like world where you need to add models representing the housing
‐ Use the gamification of the platform to encourage the desired behaviour; associated to this, the game world will be linked to the real world. This includes a matching tool that setups the value chains
‐ Develop a reputation mechanism
The methodologies, tools, supporting information services and derived end-user centered business models will be demonstrated and validated in a number of demonstration cases in real life operating conditions, each representing a targeted end-user group. The preparations for the demonstration projects has started in during the first reporting period. A number of the demonstration have changed and are described in the amendment.
During the first reporting period also, as part of the Exploitation and replication phase the first TripleA-reno roadshow was organized by Housing Europe, on June 5 2019 in Lyon.
The expected results are:
- The TripleA-reno gamified concept co-creator platform > level 1 Design / Improve by co-creation.
- The TripleA-reno gamified proven quality realisation platform as a part of a Private Quality labelling framework > Level 2 Construct - realization of proven quality. This platform is for workers as well as professionals
- The TripleA-reno gamified proven and sustainable reduction platform > Level 3 Consciousness use and proven quality by the gamified in-use platform, including Vlogs or other kinds of feedback in the in-use phase (customer intimacy and community ‘problem solving’).
- Seven real live cases demonstrating the working of a validated and evidence based operational TripleA-reno Open Gamified Platform
- A European wide out roll of the Open Gamified Platform by four European umbrella organisations to their members and to at least 20 municipalities by ICLEI.
TripleA-reno will directly (layer 1) trigger an average 40% energy savings (2,55 GWh/y primary energy savings) and 1,375 (GWh/y) renewable energy production by the deep renovation of 326 existing units in the demonstration cases, representing a total of 26.532 m2 deep renovated floor area. As all these pilot projects are a part of larger complexes, to be deep renovated during the project duration, the impact on energy savings and renewables is enlarged in Second layer: The replication potential direct in the demonstration projects.
Finally, a Third layer is introduced: the potential by multiplying by partners as end-users after the end of the project, triggered by the TripleA-reno roadshow.
