Project description
Assessing risks in aviation, marine transport sectors
The maritime and aviation industries recognise that Human Factors are key to safety, and are investing considerable resources into dedicated Human Factors activities. However, a systematic approach to collect and assess Human Factors information is missing. There is also a lack of data collection and limited cooperation between different modes of transportation, making risk-based decisions difficult, both for system design and operations. The EU-funded SAFEMODE project will design and validate a risk-informed framework to support Human Factors analysis in design and operations (Human Risk-Informed Design, HURID). Case studies will address known and emerging risks, such as increased levels of automation and remote operations (unmanned ships and drones). Safety data will be collected, analysed and structured into an Open Data Repository (called SHIELD).
