Next Generation Internet of Things

Periodic Reporting for period 2 - NGIoT (Next Generation Internet of Things)

Berichtszeitraum: 2020-05-01 bis 2021-10-31

NGIoT will create a robust and agile research and innovation agenda that will close the gap to implementation and lead to unlocking the growth potential of Internet of Things (IoT) while respecting core European values, supporting key EU policies, leveraging the key associations and establishing a Strategy Board.

IoT is a key enabler, and challenge, in the digital transformation, requiring ambition and attention to help achieve societal goals related to social, environmental and economic development.

NGIoT delivered the "Roadmap for IoT Research, Innovation and Deployment in Europe 2021-2027". The Roadmap contains an analysis of the IoT landscape, and provides detailed recommendations for research, innovation and deployment. It is available at the website: www.ngiot.eu
The first period (M01-18) of the project has included: Setting the foundation for highly effective and interactive outreach activities.Outcomes include Outreach and Impact Creation Strategy and Plan, the NGIoT web portal, including a calendar of relevant events, the design of a first flyer about the human-centred IoT initiative, a slide-based project’s presentation, dedicated social media channels established and initially animated, a first video and newsletters.
Establishment of the NGIoT Strategy Board with external key stakeholders. A roadmap for proposed standardization activities. Identification of end-user engagement measures. Guidelines for IoT privacy and security. An initial market analysis and business modelling report. A scoping paper and draft roadmap for European IoT Research, Innovation and Deployment 2021-2027. Webinars and consultations to support the input and analysis. Participation to external events and presentations.

In the second period (M19-36), the project continued to extend the analysis of the landscape, and developed a set of concise recommendations, which were validated through community engagement in the Strategy Board and through sectorial workshops. The recommendations are already reflected in the first parts of the Horizon Europe Work Programme, the Digital Europe programme (DIGITAL) and the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).
What will be delivered is a cross-domain ecosystem approach to establish new directions for research and innovation as well as implementation, by engaging key IoT-related organisations and relevant quadruple helix representatives, and promoting collaboration and inter-organisational coordination in order to mobilise effectively and provide strategic coordination towards an ambitious roadmap for European IoT research and innovation as well as implementation.

The baseline and landscaping for clear priorities has been delivered in the first period, as a basis for priorities and an agenda for research, innovation and deployment for IoT in Europe. In the second period, the roadmap was delivered, supporting the work programme(s) evolutions in an engaged community of stakeholders, in EU27 and beyond.
