A fast and powerful 3D cargo space usage optimization service for logistics industry

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - BOXBOT (A fast and powerful 3D cargo space usage optimization service for logistics industry)

Berichtszeitraum: 2018-12-01 bis 2019-03-31

BOXBOT is a 3D cargo space optimization software service which is able to handle complex packing, loading and un-loading challenges is short time. The software is designed to be offered as a service to logistics centres, cargo handlers, truck and van operators and anyone else who needs to transport large amount of different sized cargo.

The development of BOXBOT software started in the year 2009 and the development has mostly been done as internal research of the company KINE Robot Solutions. Within the last few years (2014-2018), BOXBOT has taken big steps forward within development and reached TRL6.

In phase 1 we were able to confirm the objectives for the projects next steps. The plan is to get BOXBOT from TRL6 to TRL9. To get this process forward, in the project we did a technical report to map what is needed for the next steps in the road for commercialization. Study included a business plan, market research, IPR study and risk assessment. All of these will help towards the commercialisation of BOXBOT.

SME instrument has worked as a great influencer and needed resource for a small company that wouldn’t have the possibility to perform this scale of research by own resources and costs.
The work performed during PH1 included market research, business plan, work plan for phase 2 and feasibility study.

In feasibility study we focused on clearing the technical description and elements that will need elaborating to bring BOXBOT to TRL9. This includes new features and integrations, cloud platform and improvements.

The competitor analysis gave very promising result. It was confirmed that there isn’t a similar solution on the market with the same functionalities.

The market analysis also confirmed the scale of the market. Before the project the company only had a feeling of the size of the market BOXBOT could address.
Until today, BOXBOT has been tested in land and marine cargo cases. Based on the case studies we have a clear view of where to take BOXBOT and what is needed to achieve the next steps. Aim is to be able to present BOXBOT as a product with significant evidence of its power.

According to market research, BOXBOT already is quite state of art. Commercializing it as quickly as possible would bring large impact to several stakeholders, including the company itself and its partners.

Environmental impact has been our goal since the first days of development. With our cargo planning, more cargo can be transported with less vehicles, lowering the worldwide emissions. i.e. lowering CO2 emissions per transported cargo.

With BOXBOT the cargo plans will take safety aspect to account. For example, loading computer verifications in marine cargo for vessel stability and strength.
