Project description
Turning tricky texts into easily understandable language
For newly arrived immigrants struggling to adjust to a new language and people with learning disabilities who may need support to understand complicated information, the EU-funded CAPITO project has developed an innovative solution. Its goal is to make information understandable for everyone. The project developed a mobile app that can translate complex information to three easy language levels (A1, A2 and B1) in English, German, Portuguese and Spanish. According to the project, barrier-free information enables users to enjoy an equal footing in society with equal opportunities. The app also benefits businesses and government offices by eliminating the need for them to provide customers with additional support.
Objective
Comprehensible information is the key to participate in society. If people do not understand, what’s going on around them, they are not able to make their own informed decisions. 54% of adults in the world population, people with learning difficulties and disabilities and immigrants are struggling to understand every information they take if it comes complexity level in B2, C1 and C2. Alongside negative social impacts, the cost of illiteracy in the global economy is more than €1.1 trillion annually. Capito is a mobile application which translates any complex information to three easy to understandable language level, A1, A2 and B1 in German, English, Portuguese and Spanish. Our aim as a social impact company is to create a society where everybody can have the same conditions. Our business model is based on three side app which includes end-users, customers and social franchise network. The application is serving to the end-user free, but we charge our customers and franchise network partners according to the service that we provide. End-users benefit from the barrier-free information and this allows them to live an equal environment with equal opportunities. For the companies and public authorities, they are able to make their products, services more understandable, and they do not need to serve additional support. The partners in a Franchise network get the same products and services in high quality from all their network partners. Additionally, automated transformation service is cheaper, time saver opposite to manual service. We, CFS GmbH want to secure the profitability for continuing growth and future competitiveness with the automated translating service. Until 2026, we assume a sustained increase of clients through our franchises from the target markets up to 800 clients and we will generate €20.131.448 as total revenue. Besides, we will have 24 new staff for technical and commercial duties whose 20% will be disabled people.
