SMEntorEGE

Project description

A mentoring partnership accelerates innovation and economic competitiveness in Turkey

Technical knowledge and innovation that is not accompanied by business savvy can often go unexploited, with impact on the SMEs themselves as well as on economies and the public that could benefit from the novel developments. Accelerating innovation and increasing the economic competitiveness of innovative SMEs is the goal of the EU-funded SMEntorEGE project. The project team is focusing on coaching and mentoring SMEs in Turkey whether they are in the initial phases of growth or have already obtained EU funding but need support in successful utilisation of the project’s resources. SMEntorEGE will lead to standardised methods for innovation support to be applied in the future as well as successful acceleration of the innovative potential in companies that are mentored now.

Objective

The general objective of SMEntorEGE is to support the regional SMEs to increase their efficiency and effectiveness in investments for research, development and innovation by improving their existing innovation capabilities, thus contributing to smart growth.
The project SMEntorEGE aims to provide mentoring and coaching services to two different target groups of SMEs with the objective of increasing and accelerating the economic returns from innovation. The project has two main target groups:

1. SMEs with real potential for international growth via product/process/service/business model innovation but who lack the knowledge, skills or ability to manage innovation activities as a result of lack of offers and guidance.

2. SMEs who are the beneficiaries of “SME Instrument” (either in Phase I or Phase II of the project), Fast Track to Innovation (FTI) and Future and Emerging Technologies Open (FET-Open) but who need technical support and coaching in innovation management to enhance successful exploitation of the project and its contribution to the companies’ growth.

As a result of the project, new types of standardised innovation support methodologies will be developed, the skills of the staff from the existing consortia will be improved, comprehensive innovation support will be given, EEN will be embedded in Regional Innovation Ecosystem, closer cooperation will be established between key innovation support providers and relevant stakeholders.
