Sintesi del contesto e degli obiettivi generali del progetto

Ecoat project is to design and produce polymer for the paint industry which is bio-based. This means it reduces the CO2 emission (absorbing instead of emitting) of the paint industry and provides to the end user a cleaner interior air after application. Indeed today 6,6 Milion tons of CO2 are emitted by the paint industry,210 000 tons of solvent are released to the atmosphere and 13 000 tons of VOC are emitted inside our houses...
Ecoat's polymer goal is to bring sustainable alternatives thanks to the research effort. The barriers are cost and yellowing. Ecoat's has found how to unlock these technologies.
The objectives will be to develop the product at a mass market price with lower VOC and equal quality.
The secondary objective will be to design the proper dissemination strategy to reach market and grow the business. Last but not least, the production will also be more sustainable Thanks to process innovation.

The first prototype of biobased polymer has been designed and industrialized. The product in Ecoat's laboratory seems to match all the targets. The product was given to beta Customers to get their feedback. Some modification were asked and product is being recycled.

With Ecoat's WWP the paint will reach a level of sustainability much better than what is existing. It will open also the door to a complete change of mindset around the paint industry and how paints and polymers should be designed.
