Democratizing Machine Learning for Big Series

Project description

Make intelligent decisions with time-series data

Time-series data is all around us. Our body for example, generates this data which can be used to find and predict illnesses. Industry 4.0. uses this data for monitoring and predictive maintenance. Meteorologists analyse them to forecast. Stockbrokers study them to predict stock price. The EU-funded DEMABIS is working on a business plan to map the commercial potential of Shapelets, a software designed to empower people to make better decisions with time-series data. It is the first platform tailored for time-series analysis. It provides the latest time-series algorithms originated from academia as well as the tools data scientists and decision-makers need to make the most of data series. Shapelets can retrieve and read streams of data from sensors, network logs, web clickstreams and social media. It is the only platform that can answer ‘Have I seen this pattern before?’, allowing for true, real-time decision-making, monitoring, causal analysis, and accurate predictive analytics.

Objective

Shapelets is the first state-of-the-art Data Series Management System. A Machine Learning platform that empowers users to obtain invaluable insights from their time series data in a way that no other tool or platform in the market does.
Our innovation comes not only from a holistic and unique approach to time series data management but also from the implementation of recently discovered novel algorithms for time series data.
We are a 100% private owned company focused on R&D. We have a cohesive and highly-skilled team, where half of the employees know each other from a previous company and where leadership and management excel from a technical and business point of view. We are currently 7 people and plan to hire an average of 11 people each year to reach 52 by the end of 2023.
Our main verticals and use cases are in the following sectors: Energy, Industrial IoT, Aerospace, Automotive, Health, Sports and Financial.
The major market barrier now is to reach critical mass with Shapelets as quickly as possible — a necessity for us given the novelty behind the idea. Our investment plan for for this market opportunity involves obtaining €2M from VCs in 2019 and a another €2M from VCs in 2020. With this funding we will be able to grow our team fast enough to launch the first full and free version of our product, promote our open-source platform so it becomes a standard for time-series analysis and continue building the different industry verticals.
We project to triple our revenue to 1.4€M in 2021 and double it in 2022 and 2023. We expect to start making profits from this project by the end of 2021 and a net income is projected to reach €1.15M in 2022 as sales increase and operations become more efficient.
With this funding application we pretend to generate a feasibility study to get a grip on the R&D, technical feasibility and commercial potential of our disruptive technology in order to capture this into a business plan for scaling it up.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.

SME-1 - SME instrument phase 1

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
