Earth Observation by Autonomous Solar UAV

Periodic Reporting for period 2 - SX1.3 (Earth Observation by Autonomous Solar UAV)

Berichtszeitraum: 2021-02-03 bis 2022-02-02

The issue addressed is to offer to several industries and human applications a new way to do Earth observation. This solution is to offer a sustainable solution, fully autonomous, very safe, and very attractive economically compared to conventional aerials solutions.

It is important for the society to show that with good design, strong choices, it is possible to have highly performant solutions which are FULLY SUSTAINABLE - and very attractive in terms of economics.

The overall objective of SX1.3 is to the become a reference in terms of performances, sustainability and costs. This shall invite other industries to always take into account sustainability during all stages of their processes.
Technical work was based on the optimisation of the previous drone platform. Great focus has been adressed on the following subjects : aerodynamics efficiency, structural optimisation, energy architecture and design, communication systems and overall safety.
The international team for the project has managed to fulfill the high level requirement and then successfully pass the CDR.
The production organissation has also been undertaken as well as the certification roadmap.
On the security side, a SAB (Security Advisory Board) has been created and several workshops have been organised.
The high level quality of work already done are showing tremendous innovations and expected performances.

SX1.3 is going to have a very high impact of the society as it is going to demonstrate the full capability of renewable energies and unconventionnal architecture for aviation.
