Violence, social integration and training: finding the right way

Objective

By modelling practical attempts at improving care services for problem groups at risk of social exclusion and violence, this project aims to develop an adult instructor-training module for teachers and others dealing with this target group over a two-year period. As the multi-partner educational initiatives (i.e. associations, companies) taken in the French system appear to produce quite paradoxical results, they will be compared with those implemented by European partners (Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and Sweden).

Modelling various experiments within the context of a research programme will indicate how to encourage young people in the 16 to 25 age-group to accept responsibility by attending initial training or returning to training, as well as serve to develop a sense of civic awareness and provide them with vocational training. This modelling process will make use of audio-visual methods. An instructor-training module (instructors' guide and film) for supervisory staff (teachers in initial/continuing training, company instructors, staff of social and educational institutions) based on an analysis of inter-personal relationships will be evaluated. The results of this project (educational documentation and training course) will be disseminated through the media and specialist institutional organisations.

Impact
This project will help improve the quality of training offered to social players (teachers, company instructors, staff of social and educational institutions) looking after young people at risk of social exclusion (school drop-outs, people experiencing difficulty finding employment, potentially violent young people) and who are often unable to cope with the scale of the problems they encounter.
