A discovery tool for accelerated adsorption-diffraction analysis of dynamic adsorbents in gas separation

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - DYNADIFF (A discovery tool for accelerated adsorption-diffraction analysis of dynamic adsorbents in gas separation)

Periodo di rendicontazione: 2021-04-01 al 2022-09-30

A prototype of multipurpose in-situ chamber for simultaneous structural investigations of crystalline nanoporous solids in controlled gas atmosphere in the broad temperature range was constructed and adapted to EMPYREAN Powder X-ray diffractometer (Panalytical). The system is coupled with volumetric adsorption instrument and allows to analyze the pore structure and inner surface of the material by gas adsorption and X-ray diffraction techniques simultaneously. The new inexpensive X-ray transparent materials have been succesfully implemented and new holders were developed for the samples with different X-ray transparency. In situ chamber was successfully validated for X-ray diffraction and physical adsorption measurements at different temperatures using NIST materials and crystalline frameworks showing phase transitions, induced by temperature and adsorption of gas molecules. The market analysis reveals the high demand on the developed technology in academia, confirmed by multiple requests on the test measurements after dissamination events at the scientific conferences and forums. So far, the vendors and industry show moderate interest probably due to the rather early stage of technologial implementation of the flexible solids in the technological processes. The rights on the trade mark "DYNADIFF" were reserved and IP properties are claimed in the German and European patent applications.
