Real and viable alternance

Objective

The relation between education institutions and enterprises is an important link in the development of life-long learning and the general skills of people in vocational training, especially those in apprenticeships. The project seeks to better describe this relationship and to find out how education and training institutions and enterprises deal with different mutual conditions for initial vocational education.

The goals of the project are to analyse the pedagogical links between vocational education in technical colleges and training in enterprises which is part of vocational education schemes, and to develop instruments for measuring the quality of mobility between enterprises and technical colleges, especially cooperation between teachers and tutors.

The project will survey how learning processes in enterprises and schools are linked in vocational education. An analysis including missing links and good examples will be conducted, and manuals for development in different countries will be produced. A catalogue of instruments will be developed to enable the social partners to influence and monitor the links between the enterprises and the schools and between member states in order to contribute to meaningful apprentice mobility.

Impact
Positive impact is expected on training systems, notably enhanced cooperation between educational institutions and enterprises.
