Obiettivo
The project is based on the fact that women are have been proportionately under-represented in well-paid occupations with a high technological content. This is directly linked to the educational and vocational training choices they make at the beginning of their careers. Female students appear to be in some way disadvantaged because of stereotypes about male and female roles that are deeply rooted in both families and the education system.
WOTEC aims to promote equal opportunities with regard to access to training courses with a high technological and manual skill content. It will do this by developing new vocational guidance and counselling policies and practices. It will suggest ways of adapting workshop activities in vocational and technical schools, notably by encouraging teaching and technical staff to deal with the difficulties encountered by female students. Another innovation will concern the opening of workshop activities to children from primary schools and their families, especially mothers, with a view to combating stereotyping.
Impact
The project will have an impact on the awareness of teachers and trainers about the difficulties encountered by female students. It will ultimately encourage more women to take up careers with a high technological and manual content.
