Objective
In Europe there has been a marked move away from the concept of a job for life. As the nature and structure of work evolves, new job profiles emerge, new skills are required. While there is universal recognition of the role played by training in re-skilling, weak points remain in the availability/accessibility of services and the target groups addressed/reached. This project aims to develop a typology of women's needs as a means to determining the relationship between guidance and counselling and active participation in the labour market.
The project will be in three stages. First a survey will be conducted among women from different backgrounds, with a wide variety of skills and at various stages of their careers in order to determine the guidance and training they would need to maximise their working potential. A formalised typology will be developed from the findings. In stage two, an in-depth analysis will be made of guidance and training services available to the groups of women identified in stage one. Stage three will consist of an evaluation of the links between guidance services and guidance users. It will include case studies highlighting areas of good practice and make recommendations on how services and needs could be better adjusted to the benefit of the labour market as a whole.
Impact
The project will provide empirical evidence which will assist in the development of a coherent European strategy for guidance and counselling.
