Development of anti-inflammatory drugs.

Our project is concerned with front-line molecular and cellular studies of the biosynthesis of leukotrienes, powerful lipid mediators of inflammation and allergy. During our project, we have been able to solve the crystal structure of a key enzyme in the biosynthetic cascade. This achievement makes it possible to start rational, structure-based, design of enzyme inhibitors, compounds that can be developed into novel anti-flammatory drugs. In addition, hitherto unknown regulatory mechanisms of the leukottriene cascade have been unraveled, which in turn has allowed us to identify new potential drug targets
