Ziel
Biomass flash pyrolysis is the most promising process for the production of renewable liquid fuels. Large-scale applications are not foreseen shortly, because of the high upgrading costs of the liquids to reduce major problems (e.g. polymerisation, high viscosity) for their effective handling and processing as a renewable fuel. Catalytic biomass flash pyrolysis (CBFP) is a promising and economical process combining pyrolysis and catalytic upgrading in the same reactor. Commercial catalysts were found inappropriate for CBFP leading to high water and coke yields. Development of tailored catalysts for CBFP within this project will substantially improve the liquids fuel quality (less water; higher heating values; increased content of hydrocarbons and valuable chemicals, ~30 wt % each) and facilitate their effective introduction to the EU energy balance.
