USE OF HETEROGENEOUS PHOTOCATALYSIS FOR THE REDUCTION OF WATER POLLUTION

Ziel

REMOVAL OF POLLUTANTS IN WASTE WATERS USING PHOTOACTIVATED SEMICONDUCTOR PARTICULATES.

THIS JOINT PROJECT INVESTIGATES THE USE OF TIO2 PARTICULATES, ACTIVATED BY UV LIGHT, FOR CATALYSING THE DEGRADATION OF ORGANIC COMPOUNDS IN WASTE WATERS.

THE RESEARCH IS FOCUSSED ON CHLORINATED COMPOUNDS (CHLOROPHENOLS AND CHLOROBENZENE) FOR:
1) IDENTIFICATION OF REACTIONS AND INTERMEDIATE COMPOUNDS PRODUCED DURING THE DEGRADATION PROCESS BY SEMI-CONDUCTOR MATERIAL.
2) QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS OF PHOTOCHEMICAL AND PHOTOCATALYTIC PROCESSES: QUANTUM YIELD OF THE REACTIONS, PHOTOACTIVATION OF THE PROCESSES, EFFICIENCY AND POISONING OF THE CATALYSIS.

THE DATA OBTAINED IN LABORATORY CONDITIONS WILL ALLOW TO OPTIMIZE THE METHOD FOR DEPOLLUTING WASTE WATERS IN NORMAL TREATMENT PLANTS AND TO DETERMINE THE IMPORTANCE OF PHOTOCATALYTIC PROCESSES OCCURING IN NATURAL CONDITIONS.
