Framework programmes for Community research, development and demonstration activities and a first framework programme, (1984 to 1987)

The Community's research, development, and demonstration activities are rooted in Community law. In its Resolution of 25 July 1983 (Official Journal No C 208 of 4.8.1983) the Council approved the principle of framework programmes for four-year periods and defined scientific and technical objectives for the period 1984-1987. The first framework programme was born, and the Commission was made responsible for implementing the programme adopted by the Council. Research activities included "in-house" research, shared-cost research, coordinated research, and research within the Fusion programme. Some programmes offered scholarships to promote the training and mobility of scientific personnel.
