Obiettivo
Promess 1 is an integrated pan-European project for drilling, coring, logging and testing two of the best studied continental margins from a seismic stratigraphic point of view: The Gulf of Lions and the Adriatic deltaic margins in the Mediterranean Sea. We will investigate factors that controlled the formation of strata on continental shelves and slopes in response to sea-level and climate variability, slope instabilities and tectonics during the last ca. 500 ka. This is the first step of a group of proposals that plans to investigate Mediterranean deltaic margins from source to sink. The project will test the feasibility of using a geotechnical-type vessel from the industry in the perspective of the European contribution to IODP.
