Potential applications:
RODOS as a decision support system for nuclear emergency management has been developed for operational use in technical emergency centres; in parallel, it is applied for training of those involved in emergency management and decision making on interventions as well as a tool for preparing emergency exercises.
End-users:
Responsible persons in the institutions involved in emergency management in the various phases of a radiological accident, such as radiological advisors, technical experts and people directly concerned with decision making. Institutions developing and performing training courses for people mentioned before.
Innovative features/benefits:
None of the existing decision support systems in Europe provides the new features of the RODOS versions PV5.0 and Pv6.0, such as the new Web-based user interface, the extension of the RODOS applicability to long duration releases of up to 47 days, the generalisation of the meteorological pre-processing tools with respect to many types of meteorological data and forecasts, dispersion conditions and topography, and the incorporation of data assimilation techniques; these features will significantly improve the accuracy of the diagnostic and prognostic capabilities of the RODOS system and its applicability as a whole.
Analysis of the market or application sectors:
The new features of RODOS PV5.0 and PV6.0 correspond to the needs of the already existing and potential users in technical emergency centres. This augurs well for a wider distribution of the RODOS system in European emergency centres.
Potential barriers:
The increasing functionality of a computerised system leads to a more and more complex user interaction resulting in a user interface, that needs well trained operators and which is not straightforward to use by inexperienced personnel. This causes a certain barrier in the system's dissemination. Through the development of the Web-based user interface and the continuous interaction with existing and future users, the developers try to overcome this problem.
