Applications of the relativistic mean field - rmf - theory to nuclear systems

The theoretical study of nuclei far from stability has become a very interesting and chalenging subject for the nuclear structure theory. It should be also noticed, that many laboratories with radioactive beam facilities have started exploring this region. The properties of exotic nuclei and especially those near the drip lines and near closed shells are of great importance for nuclear astrophysics.
Relativistic Mean Field (RMF) theory has recently gained considerable interest for studying nuclear structure properties. With a very limi- ted number of phenomenological parameters, RMF theory is able to give a quantitative description of ground state properties of spherical and deformed nuclei at and away from stability line.
We plan to employ RMF theory for a theoretical description of the ground state properties (Binding energies, radii, deformation para- meters, separation energies, e.t.c.) of exotic nuclei. We are going to investigate their isospin properties, the location of the drip lines as well as shell effects near closed shell at drip-line nuclei. For this purpose, a finite range pairing force of a Gaussian form will be incorporated in our RMF code. We will study, particularly, odd mass nuclei by including in the code the nucleonic currents due to non conservation of the time reversal symmetry.
