INTEGRATED SOFTWARE system FOR MOLECULAR BIOLOGISTS

Obiettivo

The main focus is to train up to fourteen postdocs (seven two-years periods) in biological information science, an interdisciplinary area at provide large quantities of data, with a potentially enormous impact on our knowledge of the biology of organisms and on medical research. The the borders of computer science, mathematics and molecular biology. This aims of this project are the development of an integrated software system area is severely under-represented in European universities, compared to for the efficient identification of protein function from sequence the U.S.A. and measured against the needs created by the rapid accumulation of biological information through modern molecular genetics, information, the development of new information processing methods for cell biology and large scale sequencing projects. Each postdoc will work molecular biology, and the wide dissemination of the resulting research tool to molecular biologists, both academic and industrial. very closely with one researcher with extensive practical experience and participate in a number of training courses. Given the current needs of The project requires interdisciplinary expertise in molecular biology, computer science and network information services. The partners are from the pharmaceutical industry, the postdocs should have excellent employment opportunities as a result of the training.
six countries, the UK, Germany, Spain, Greece, Norway, and Italy, each an expert in particular areas of computer based sequence analysis, such as error detection, sophisticated profile searches, function identification, genome comparison, modelling drug targets, algorithm development and software engineering. One is a medium-sized industrial enterprise. The groups have a history of collaborations and many joint publications. The common goal of delivering an integrated software system provides an excellent incentive for very close collaboration with frequent personal contacts.
