Process steps for avoidance/reduction of defects in silver jewellery casting (porosit, hot cracks, firestain)

The procedures are simple but very effective measures for avoidance/reduction of the most typical defects related to silver jewellery investment casting: firestain, hot cracking and (gas) porosity. The measures are based on the metallurgical principles which are responsible for the occurrence of these defects and include improvement of cooling procedures of flasks after casting, quality indicators for usage of raw materials, improvement of cleaning procedures for recycling of scrap and improvement of casting melting process parameters.
