Obiettivo
The cost of corrosion to industrialized countries amounts, typically, to 3-4 % of GDP . It is estimated that these costs could be reduced by up to 40% in some cases by more rigorous application of existing knowledge. Better training and certification of corrosion personnel, particularly in the fields of cathodic protection and protective coatings would facilitate the achievement of such savings and lead to improved product quality, reduced waste and less risk of environmental pollution. These important issues will be addressed in EFC Event No. 253 to be held in Aix-en-Provence, France, during June 2002, where progress towards the certification of corrosion personnel in Europe will be reviewed. Financial support is sought from the EC for the provision of bursaries to allow participation in the conference by students and others of limited means.
