Molybdenum and Tungsten Enzymes (Gordon Research Conference)

Obiettivo

The conference is intended to promote scientific excellence in the very fast developing field of MoW-enzymes that play major roles in the global cycling of nitrogen, sulfur, and carbon. MoW- enzymes are important agriculturally and environmentally, they play key roles in the physiology and pathology of bacteria, plants, and animals, and they have novel biomedical implications. Under the roof of "MoW enzymes" diverse research lines like biochemistry, crystallography, spectroscopy, molecular genetics and biomedicine have seen striking advances in recent years and developed so fast that a merge of areas just takes place leading to synergetic developments, or that cutting-edge research directions penetrate into unexpected new grounds like human gene therapy and industrial application. In order to foster the strongly needed cross-talk between disciplines, a timely, broadscale conference is needed with a challenging combination of topics. Highlights will be expected in two particularry hot areas.

As it turned out on the inaugural Gordon Research Conference on "MoW - Enzymes" (USA, 1999), this novel field is represented by a strong fraction of leading European researchers so that the Proposal Coordinator (D) and the Local Organiser (UK) were elected Co-chairs to organize the next conference in Europe. Both Co-chairs chose Queens College Oxford (UK) as attractive conference, site. Approximately two thirds of the expected conference participants will be European. These estimates are solely based on scientific expertise. Thus there is the unique chance that a novel field of cutting-edge science will be shaped in its further development under European leadership. This essentially includes the participation of young researchers.
