Obiettivo
Cyanobacteria (Cyanophyta, Cyanoprokariota, Oxiphotobacteria) constitute a phylogenetically coherent group of phototrophic bacteria with chlorophyll a. Cyanobacteria make a significant contribution to global primary productivity in oceans and lands and become locally dominant primary producers in many extreme environments such as hot and cold deserts, hot-springs and hipersaline environments. Blooms of toxic cyanobacteria are important features for the ecology of many eutrophic fresh and brackish bodies of water. The study of their metabolic activities, diversification, and utility as well as experimental and biotechnological models, is continually developing.
The 15th IAC Symposium is intended to provide:
a) a place for presentation and discussion of current research and recent advances on the field;
b) to co-ordinate efforts and avoid repetitions;
c) to exchange new techniques and experiences;
d) to promote the leadership of European research in the field.
To achieve these objectives, the organizers are bringing together the most representative groups to share their research among colleagues and among experts and young researchers. The IAC symposium builds on the success in attendance and quality of the previous ones and the value of scientists and students from the different fields, to continue the work on the diverse topics that are now at the edge of biological advances.
15th Symposium contents are covering the most relevant aspects of the field:
-What does mean species in cyanophyta/ cyanoprokaryota/ cyanobacteria?
-Morphology and Structure;
-Phenotypic and molecular diversity. Coincidence of both approaches;
-Ecology and Ecophysiology;
-Cyanobacteria-Dominated Communities;
-Applied aspects.
In addition workshops are intended on hands-on microscopy and demonstrations on molecular tools in the field of cyanobacteria (demonstrations on electron microscopy cryomethods for in situ molecular identification and demonstration of nucleic acid hybridisation techniques like fluorescent in situ hybridisation (FISH), or in situ identification of 16S rRNA).
