Obiettivo
To whom may it concerns: I have been the director of the research of Eduardo Garcia-Verdugo during the last years. His Ph.D. work has been dedicated to the study of novel homogeneous and heterogeneous enantio-selective catalysts and reagents derived from amino acids. As it is clear from his achievements during this period of work, Eduardo Garcia-Verdugo is a very hard worker, being able to enjoy the research he is doing and to follow and develop the general ideas I, as his advisor, provided to him. I had a direct contact with him during his B.Sc. studies, and he showed a high interest and application to the studies. He shows good marks for the average of Spanish students in Chemistry. His ability to learn on different subjects has been also shown through the Ph.D. courses he has followed as well as with the attendance to seminars and workshops on different matters related with his research. In this sense, he has always followed the training advises I have given him. The level of the research contained in his Ph.D. work is very high as shown by the quality of the publications that have appeared and by the level of the research that has not yet been published. During the period of research he has shown a good knowledge of general organic chemistry:
concepts as well as practical aspects, and he has become proficient in the usual lab techniques needed in our field of work, including instrumental techniques, choral reactions, and polymerisation methods. In this context he has become familiar with IR and Raman techniques, NMR spectroscopy, GC and HPLC and other spectroscopic tools.
Eduardo Garcia-Verdugo has shown a very good capacity to interact with the other members of our group and to work in an interdisciplinary environment, as we work on different projects and with people having backgrounds in different areas of chemistry. I do not think that he will have problems in adapting to a new culture as he has a very open mind. In this respect he has had no problems to adapt during a one-year stay at the laboratories of Degussa in Germany and during a shorter stay at the Univ. of Oldenburg also in Germany. According to the former, I strongly recommend him for any position available at your laboratory, as this should be very appropriate for his training and his research. Even if he is not familiar with the work in supercritical fluids, he is really enthusiastic about his work and he has demonstrated to be able to learn and to develop his own ideas within the general context of a research project, and this is, in my opinion, one of the best qualifications for a postdoctoral position. Yours sincerely,
