Cutting and material removal with waterjets and abrasive waterjets

Obiettivo

Cutting and Material Removal with Water jets and Abrasive Water jets Research Training The subjects offered are of a highly innovative character. They combine scientific claim with industrial relevance. Most of them are in close contact with adjacent engineering subjects or even with other disciplines. - Production engineering: Development of miniaturized abrasive water jets (AWJ)- Materials science: Material removal with water jets (WJ) Wear behavior in abrasive nozzles - Process engineering: Increase of pressure for metal cutting with WJs - Chemical engineering: Improving the cutting efficiency and jet coherence by the use of additives - Medical technology: Medical applications of WJs and AWJs The fellowship will start with a general training on watered technology of 2 months. Then the fellow will be guided in gathering research results of high novelty and relevance for his doctoral thesis. For this he will be trained in systematic research methodologies. The results will be presented and vindicated every 8 weeks. If appropriate they will be published and presented on an international conference. At the meetings of the German Water jet Association he will find further partners in discussion and have the opportunity of establishing contacts. Expertise available the WLH (Wasserstrahl Labor Hannover) has been active in the field of water jet technology for more than 30 years and has always been in a leading position in Europe. It has determined the development of this technology in a decisive way. The WLH provides an excellent reputation in scientific training, proved by 13 successful doctoral graduations and numerous post-graduate trainings for fellows from abroad. The equipment of the WLH is excellent for the research activities in the above named innovative fields. The measuring devices allow a precise and effective evaluation of the results. The sourcing of information is guaranteed by the largest technical library of Germany. Cost efficient accommodation in a student hostel nearby can be supplied. Also social support can be provided by the International Office.
Qualifications required
The fellow
- must be graduated in an engineering or natural science and be interested for doing research in water jet technology
- must have an appropriate level of independent researching as requirement to master the scientific research methodologies
- must have a very good knowledge of the English language, to allow discussions on a high level.
