Obiettivo
ELETTRA is a large scale facility allowing very important academic, applied and industrial research using intense beams of ultraviolet and x radiation. Elettra operates in the following way: beams of electrons are accelerated by a line accelerator (linac) to 1.0 GeV of energy. From the linac the electrons are injected into the storage ring (where they are further accelerated up to 2.4 GeV of energy and stored for many hours ), and where the bending magnets and other devices (wigglers and ondulators) force the electrons to emit synchrotron light. The light is then channelled into beamlines where experimental stations are placed at their ends. At the present time (March 2001) there are fifteen operating beamlines on ELETTRA: VUV Photoemission, SuperESCA, X-ray Diffraction, ESCA Microscopy, Small angle X-ray Scattering, Mammography (SYRMEP), Gas-Phase Photoemission, Surface Physics (ALOISA), Spectromicroscopy, Circular Polarization, Photolithography (LILIT), Deep Photolithography, BACH (Beamline for Advanced DiCHroism), Materials Science and XAFS. The first nine have been officially opened to external users since some time. Five additional beamlines are under construction and should be completed by mid-2002.
Application:
CALL FOR PROPOSALS AT THE ELETTRA SYNCHROTRON RADIATION FACILITY. Interested scientists can qualify for access to ELETTRA under the new EU Contract - Transnational Access to Major Research Infrastructures n. HPRI-CT-1999-00033. Access will be provided free of charge, including all the infrastructural, technical and scientific support that is normally made available to external researchers. Proposals will be selected on the basis of scientific merit through an independent peer review process. Travel and living expenses may reimbursed following this evaluation. Please note that users are eligible to benefit of access under this contract only if they belong to: Research teams conducting their research in the Member States of the Community and Associated States (Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, the Republic of Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia). Research teams who benefit of access under this contract will have to disseminate or arrange the dissemination of the knowledge they have acquired under the project. Such teams must also acknowledge that their work was supported by the Human Potential Programme - Transnational Access to Major Research Infrastructures of the European Community. Exact reference of any publication or presentation following from the scientific data made available under the present programme and accepted by peer-reviewed journals or conferences, will have to be sent to ELETTRA. Research teams from Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SME) registered in a Member state of the Community or an Associate State, which wish to use the ELETTRA infrastructure for the first time.
