Obiettivo
An EU INCO DC funded meeting with participants from India, Nepal and Europe on micronutrients and health was held in India in April 99. Consensus recommendations were evolved on the disease burden associated with micronutrient deficiencies in South Asia and on a rationale for substituting the current iron-foliate pregnancy supplement with a multi-micronutrient formulation. Progress in iron-fortification of iodised salt and processes to develop interventions for promotion of complementary feeding in young children were summarized. The requested EU -support will finance the editing of abstracts, full length articles and meeting recommendations and their publication as a separate supplement in an international journal, thereby substantially enhancing the impact of the meeting.
