Obiettivo
People who are deaf make up a linguistic and culture minority in Europe. In deaf society, culture is a very broad concept. It embraces they way of life, traditions and various beliefs shared by deaf people. This culture needs to be promoted and made known to everyone in society. The aim of this project, "A Journey through the Deaf European World", is to give information and knowledge of deaf people's culture and history in a new way, through interactive multimedia-based system and on Internet. The WFD and the EUD, which represent the users, are very eager to promote and spread this information. The target groups are deaf and hearing people in different European countries. Examples of this are human and social rights, educational opportunities, cultural activities, interpreting and information service, information about support organizations and groups for deaf people in countries which have a national association of the deaf, where to find historical monuments/memorials with connections to deaf history, information about sign language and educational opportunities where to learn sign language. From a content point of view, the project will mainly be developed in co-operation with the users in the European countries such as EUD, organizations and schools in different countries. The content of the CD-ROM will be presented as "visits" in different countries and places and will be presented in sign language, text, illustrations, videos and photos. Multimedia is perfect for deaf users because of the opportunity of getting the information in sign language. There will also be a part in the production where the user can test his/her skills. On the Internet the user can find current information about conferences, courses, cultural activities and so on. This would also be a perfect tool for different educational programmes which involve deaf students, both adolescents and adults. AmuHadar will coordinate the project and produce the CD-ROM, a database and a home page on the Internet. Our partners will support us with facts, information, dissemination and their country's sign language. The program will be developed for a standard multimedia PC. During the whole project's development and future it is very important and necessary to disseminate all experiences and results from the project to all the parties who are involved in it. The information will be presented in various forms and extents such as a customer magazine, articles in trade publications, Internet, exhibitions, congresses, seminars and workshops. This project, "A Journey through the Deaf European World", can become the catalyst for deaf people and other European citizens to come closer and exchange information and knowledge with each other. The project will make it possible to promote culture exchange for a linguistic and culture minority group in the European countries.
