Obiettivo
The recreational value, the security and the fun of a one day or several days trip in the Alps depend to a large extend on good planning and preparation. This requires the availability of high quality data and the possibility to combine, select and visualize information on the area of interest. AIDA supports users in planning tours for various types of leisure time activities: hiking, skiing and mountain-biking from leisure level to sportive ambitious, or just for sight-seeing. From a network of roads, trails and defined tours as well as public transportation facilities the system selects the optimal route depending on the user's profile/requirements. A customer will get information about culture, sight-seeing spots, practical hints and more helpful recommendations along the track, e.g. accommodation. On a background-image in raster format the important applicational geo-data is displayed and organized in vector format. As output the user gets a map printed or a list of all important stations along the tour. It will also be possible to transfer data from and to commercial hand-held GPS-receivers. The user has access to AIDA via Internet. Accounting formalities have to be solved during the definitionphase of the project. A prototype will be purchased on CD for different regions. Beyond the services a user gets outof printed touring guides or available CD-products AIDA allows the user to: add own information to existing tours, define new tours, get a real 3D image of the environment, derive elevation profiles, print or store user-defined selections, transfer data to hand-held GPS-receivers, drop important notes to other users, link to related WWW-sites. AIDA is an interactive tool. Users can share personal experiences in the Internet and emphasise found hazzards, even if they are just temporal. AIDA is based on official topographic data of the involved countries: Italy, Germany and Austria. The complete Alpine region will be covered as a longterm goal. The official geographic data is supplemented by special data, which is gathered from various sources and captured to be treated within the system. For the integration of existing data the use of European standards is considered. Since one partner, AGIS, is member of the working group GIS in the German Standardisation Committee (DIN) new developments are directly taken into account. The problem of copyright costs and the right of use will be solved during the definition phase. Various of special data types will be used in order to come up with a real multimedia product. Multimedia objects will be selected in such a way, that a user gets a comprehensive impression of the planned tour.
