Development of an absolute frequency standard for high-precision laser spectroscopy of muonium

A frequency reference in the range of 409254,8 ± 0,8 GHz is necessary for the calibration of the maser spectrometer used for the precision spectroscopy of muonium. As a result of investigation of the absorption spectra of molecules of 127I2, 129I2, Br2, Bi2, Sb2, IBr, ICl, CF3NO, the absorption line in IBr and I2 lying near this frequency have been found. After an investigation of the hyperfine structure of these lines, one of the components of the line I2 has been chosen as a frequency standard. Frequency stabilization of the Ti:sapphire laser has been realized with its help. Stability not lower than 10-9 in 1 s has been achieved. A set-up providing synthesis of frequency of the standard and its measurements with an accuracy of 10-9 and higher has been created. The potentialities of the laser standard for increasing the frequency stability and the accuracy of the measurements to the level of 10-11 - 10-12 have been determined. Saturated absorption resonances at the frequencies of 411009.18 ± 0.1 GHz and 411121.71 ± 0.1 GHz have been detected in iodine. They can serve as a reference for calibration of the spectrometer used in the precision spectroscopy of hydrogen and deuterium.
