Obiettivo
This project is concerned with establishing a research and research training network between institutions in the United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Belarus and Moldova, with interests and activities in fundamental and applied agricultural and food disciplines. The fundamental aim of the network will be to transfer research and management know-how from the western institutions to those in the NIS.
Transferable research know-how will be in the areas of biotechnology, specifically plant tissue culture, and biological pest control, specifically parasitic relationships. Transferable management know-how will be in the area of food marketing, specifically marketing research, product-development, distribution and exporting.
The western institutions will, by the provision of short training inputs, transfer the biotechnology and pest control know-how to Belarus and Moldova, enabling advances to be made in the quality, yield, variety and marketability of selected agrifood products, both traditional, such as potatoes, sunflower, grapes, fruit, and novel, such as oyster mushrooms and farmed fish. Concurrently, training inputs on marketing will enable full exploitation of identified market opportunities, both domestic and export, for the traditional and novel products.
