Obiettivo
The research project is conducted by four teams from RU (Moscow and the Komi Republic), the UK and DK respectively, a total of 12 members with a mix of experienced senior researchers and young scientists. Almost all members commanding Russian. The project idea is that, through strategic and daily interaction, managers of privatized enterprises, new private entrepreneurs, managers of public institutions and policy makers and administrators are in the process of creating what is to become the new Russian business system. The objective of the research project is twofold:
To contribute to the theory of transition Economics focusing on the
development and changes in governance structures internal and external to
the enterprises/entrepreneurs.
To develop research findings valuable for a dialogue between researchers,
enterprises and the Government (policies). The identification and changes over time in the governance structures are claimed to grasp the important changes in the enterprises and thus the actual emergence of the new and unique Russian business system. The research comprises state-of-the art studies of the Western and Russian literature on governance structure and their comparison. It also includes a trend analysis, using the comprehensive data base of the Russian Economic Barometer, compiled by one of the research teams from 1991-97.
Empirically, two studies of privatized firms and new private entrepreneurs respectively are conducted of enterprises in the Moscow area and in the natural resource reach Komi Republic in North-West of Russia.
The research project comprises three phases, the first being a phase of planning, theoretical reflections and the preparation of empirical surveys. The second phase is devoted to empirical studies while the third phase is the creative one where the profile of the emerging Russian business system will appear, i.e. where the theoretical implications of the empirical findings will be discussed.
The expected results are empirical findings and theoretical reflections which provide a profile of the emerging Russian business system and the processes at work within the system. The results will be disseminated through the Bulletin of the Russian Economic Barometer, conferences, articles and two final seminars on Emerging Governance Structures in Russia held in Russia.
The project management is kept simple. The DK-Coordinator has the overall responsibility for the extion of the project while the major decisions is made by the heads of the four teams when meeting in the two Workshops. The project is designed so that the teams will be working together at the beginning of each new phase of the project to assure the development of a common understanding of the activities.
