Installation and commissioning of the ATLAS Transition Radiation Tracker (TRT) End-caps at the LHC

Ziel

The proposed joint research project is motivated by the significant contributions, which have already been made by the participating Russian institutes to the ATLAS Transition Radiation Tracker (TRT) project over more than a decade. It will allow these institutes to bring to fruition their long-standing commitment and intellectual investments towards the design and the construction of a robust, radiation-hard tracking and particle identification device for the exciting new physics to be explored at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. The deliverables of the proposed project are: 1. Two installed and operational TRT end-caps (side A and side C); 2. Installed and fully operational High Voltage power supplies; 3. A validated and commissioned active gas system, including a few sets of TRT reference straws operated in a well controlled and accessible environment, which provide continuous monitoring of the detector performance; 4. Certified Xenon gas for the operation of the TRT detector; 5. Robust and operational data acquisition software, conditions database, monitoring and analysis tools; 6. A complete TRT sub-detector integrated into the ATLAS data taking environment and contributing to the collection of physics data with the first colliding beams provided by the LHC.
