Automated Performance Measurement

Obiettivo

The project's ultimate goal is to help European SMEs in automatically measuring, and improving, their performance to enter into global supply chains of large OEMs, through the development of an automated performance measurement system (APM) for individual enterprises and business networks. The APM will be based on integration of standard performance measures into an application layer placed on top of different ERP software systems, in turn linked to a European performance benchmarking database. Emphasis will be put on developing standardisation for handling of performance data by ERP software through co-operation with the Supply-Chain Council and its SCOR model. The performance measures cover operational dimensions (time, cost, quality) and the increasingly important aspect of environmental impact (expressed as compliance with important waste directives).

Objectives:
The vision of the project is to deliver an enhanced ERP system offering which facilitates the automated collection of performance data across supply chains using Internet/XML technology to improve SMEs' position in global supply chains. Sub-objectives are:

Install a set of standard performance measures in an application layer for several different ERP software systems to facilitate automated performance measurement for enterprises and business networks.

Promote standards among ERP software systems nn terms of performance data management, co-ordinated with the SCOR work in the US.

Develop performance measures to cover compliance with existing and future EC and national legislation regarding environmental impact.

Describe a framework for how real-time, operational performance measurement can be exploited by enterprises and business networks.

Reduce the lead-time for installation of ERP systems by approximately 15% and the cost associated with implementation with 10-15%.

Work description:
To achieve the objectives stated for the proposed project, four clearly discernible phases can be identified:

Defining valid performance measures to be used in the automated performance measurement system (APM), both traditional and environmental impact measures.

Designing the performance measurement application layer to be placed on top of the different ERP systems and striving for standardisation in co-operation with the US partner and the SCOR model.

Designing a framework for how the APM can be put to effective use for decision support across business networks.

Testing and validating the APM system in industrial applications for ensuing dissemination and exploitation.

The overall methodology of APM is based on a synergy of research-based development of standardised performance measures and indicators (Phase A), technically focused, distributed ERP redesign and re-implementation (Phase B and C), and finally, experimentally-based work to understand and test the developed automated performance system (Phase D).

Eleven workpackages have been defined that each focus on a specific aspect of the work to be undertaken. These workpackages are:

PM/PI selection and adaptation.

Environmental impact PM/PI focusing on legislation compliance.

Design of an overall APM framework.

Developing the APM for larger/mid range enterprises.

Developing the APM for SMEs.

Achieving ERP performance measurement standardisation.

Designing a framework for decision support based on APM.

Industrial demonstrators.

Dissemination and exploitation.

Assessment and evaluation.

Project management.

The consortium for the project consists of nine partners. Altogether, the consortium possesses the necessary competencies to undertake the proposed project and exploit the results. At the same time, all the partners cover specific skills or roles that balance each other and are needed for a successful completion of the project.
